YES, this includes prepaid annual payroll service subscription!!

If you have 3 or less employees, please read. You might save some money!!
I used QuickBooks for 3 years now. And every year Intuit automatically charges my credit card about 300 dollars for the annual payroll subscription (this year the charge was $309). They also send me emails offering an upgrade to Quickbooks Pro 2012 for about 200 chips with discount. So, the total cost if you take this route is about $500.

What I did last year and this year is call them to cancel and refund the annual subscription money.
And then buy QB pro 2012 + Enhanced Payroll on Amazon for about 250. THIS ABSOLUTELY INCLUDES ONE YEAR PREPAID SUBSCRIPTION TO PAYROLL SERVICES. It says right on the box. So, for half the price you have the latest QB pro software as well as payroll service subscription.

I love QB software. Very high quality overall. With very few headaches, I was able to set up, run, file taxes etc.,
I just wish the pricing was clear cut and similar if not same. I would love it, if they let me upgrade my software every year and renew my subscription every year directly from QB with a few mouse clicks and charge me the Amazon price.

Software is good but the renewal is a scam

I have had Quickbooks for many years and have used its enhanced payroll as well. I have been paying their annual subscription each year assuming they would give you a reasonable charge. I found out that they have raised their prices and are now at $295.00/year. However, purchasing the enhanced payroll on line results in a cost of about 147.00, or nearly 50% off their renewal. I called them and asked them to match what their retailers offer. They said they cannot price match their retailers and can only offer up to a 20% discount the subscription. So I declined my annual subscription.

This QB 2012 + Enhanced payroll is an even better deal. The QB 2012 Pro is $139 on Amazon and this makes the Enhance payroll $108, or 63% off their annual subscription.

I normally would give Intuit 3-4 stars for the software since it does what its supposed to, but has advertising baked into the product which is horrendously annoying. Paid products should not have advertising, or at least have the option to disable it.

Intuit gets 1 star because their annual subscription is sneaky and fleeces customers who do not do their homework. This goes for me… I hav ebeen fleeced many years and just woke up to this scam. Caveat emptor.

My recommendation to all buyers is to not give Intuit a real credit card number for their account so they are unable to auto-renew you. They will send you emails of a pending renewal. Purchase the renewal from Amazon for 50-63% discount and call up Inuit to reactive for another year.

get other payroll software if possible

Product QuickBooks Pro 2012 W/QB Enhanced Payroll 2012 description does not clearly state:
- that the payroll is only for 3 employees; for more than 3 employees, payroll needs to be activated by paying a “fee”. The fee is in the range of 100 to 395 depending on the deal the intuit rep decides to give you.

I would give this less than 1 star because the company (intuit) condones unethical practices and hides the real cost to the customer.

I contacted customer service at intuit 3 times before buying to ask them to confirm the number of employees supported by this version of payroll. I could not get a clear reply from them, they even claimed that they didn’t know what Amazon was selling, even though I gave them the link and intuit is listed as the seller on Amazon (chat copies are available).

Because our accountant only knows quickbooks, I bought it. After I installed quickbooks pro, I went ahead to activate payroll for quickbooks. (which by the way is only 7 MB on the CD).

I went through the activation process which confirmed the cost of 100 for the upgrade to the extended version of the payrol for quickbooks 2012. I clicked the “submit” button to complete the order but my credit card was declined. I contacted the bank and they confirmed no attempted charges were made. After the third attempt, the software gave an error and activated itself for 3 employees. The activation was made without user input.

Now, you might say “that’s OK”. Actually it is not. Because now when you go to activate payroll from within quickbooks 2012 interface, they ask for the full price of 395 USD to get the extended version of payroll for more than 3 employees.

I called customer support at intuit 3 times; the discount I was offered differed each time depending upon my tone of voice.

It looks like this is going back to intuit for a full refund. I don’t know if it helps any, but I might also present this to the BBB (better business bureau) and FTC.

some good, some not so much

Most of the backgrounds are good, some I can’t imagine anyone would use. Maybe it boils down to taste. I bought this for my
fxhome photokey 4 program. (seems to be a great program so far) A bunch of the backdrops are just an odd combination of blur
and color. Some of the “urban” photos appear to be just almost casual snapshots of what I am guessing is Chinatown in San
Francisco. To me, they seem unusable as a background. So the reason for 4 stars, for the most part, they can be used and
are of good quality.

Mediocre.

I really have to think about returning this. The first word that leaps to mind to describe this collection is mediocre. Most of the pictures seem to be Photoshop or other program created textures and patterns. Not a one of them is particularly spectacular, but many of them are usable. Frankly, in many cases, some blurring would improve them.

The photographs – and there are relatively few of them – are pretty pathetic. There are 88 cloud shots, for example, and not a single sunset or sunrise among them. There is one shot of a storm clouds. In other words, these are nothing more than grab shots of partially cloudy skies, nothing you couldn’t duplicate and have much more variety.

The scenics are ho-hum at best. The image quality is good, but they are little more than snapshots. Again, these would probably make better backgrounds if they were substantially blurred.

The urban scenes are useless. They are snapshots of San Francisco for the most part and not very good snapshots.

The more I think about, the firmer my conclusion becomes: these are being returned – there are better quality collections out there at reasonable prices.

Necessary for batch photos

I shoot headshots and school portraits as a side business. As I do primarily video work other times, I do not own any muslin backdrops (besides a greenscreen), so I really like this product because there are hundreds of “muslin” type backgrounds, and abstract backgrounds that look great behind headshots. There are also scenic backgrounds which are pretty decent. They look like they are straight from Hawaii and the Rockies. Nice stuff. Would be great for creating a personalized calender or something similar.

This is the easiest cd to operate. Got it when I first learned how to work a computer many years ago. I hope american greetings will have this available soon. I have Vista and am able to use it. Looking for a copy for my granddaughter, because she loves to use mine.

A good start software & fun for 3-5yr boy or girl

I purchased this software because my kid’s daycare uses Reader Rabbit. I picked this version since it was preschool to K & I’ve got a 3yr old & a 5yr old & I wanted something (for my first purchase of software) that they could both use. It’s a two disk set with one for the preschool & the other is K. The preschool has less “story” to it; it has more games, songs, & a zillion printable activities (we haven’t done them since the kids computer isn’t hooked up to a printer– another thing they might break). Some games are matching letters or shapes, while harder games have the child pick the right word for the sentence (if you move your mouse over words, etc, the sentence/word is read for the child). Both my kids like teh preschool disk. THe K disk is more story & more detail — help the mouse find letters & fill in a map. I think my 5yr old lacks the desire right now to sit thru all that, but it seems fun & challenging without being hard. My 3yr old tries to do it, but he can’t follow the steps yet. I would have given this four stars (maybe even five, but it’s my first software purchase & I’ve got nothing to compare it to) but I had to bump one off because the software doesn’t download; you have to change between disks & that is a huge drag for me when one kid is done & the other wants to do the other program. That’s just a hassle that isn’t necessary. Outside of this, I think the program is great. The kids spend maybe 20 minutes on a Saturday or Sunday on the computer. I would recommend this product. It was a good first purchase for us.

Reader Rabbit teaches

When I first purchased this and took a look at it before I let my four year old granddaughter view it–to be honest I thought it looked uninspiring and rather boring for her. But what do I know! She spent three hours on it the first day learning how to navigate through the various activities and books. I was amazed since she is a whirlwind of energy. Since then she views it daily and learns the letters and words and is beginning to pick them out of the hardcover books she has.
In the end what matters is that she finds this edition of Reader Rabbit engaging and that she is learning from the activities and the interactive stories.

Will not load

Will not load after installation. Product description says it supports Windows XP. I am running 64-bit Windows 7, which is likely the problem. My recommendation is that you should not purchase this product if you have a 64-bit OS.

not much better than a shoebox

Don’t be fooled. This isn’t software, it isn’t a book of tax advice, it may not be worth what you pay for it. This is literally a folder with a velcro seal and several tabbed sections inside for you to store tax receipts and other records. Also included in the package is a very brief pamphlet of common tax tips. There are also small labels you can attach to each of the tabbed sections.
In most respects, this product is nothing more than manilla folders with a handful of labels you can apply yourself. The tax guide pamphlet is way too small to be of much use to anyone who has done their own personal income taxes once before. If you want tax advice or tips, buy one of the books specifically written for that, or get the free publications published by the IRS which are available online and often included in most “deluxe” tax preparation software.
The folder and the tabbed sections are plastic coated but other than that it is hard to find much value-added from this product over your own folders and/or shoebox.

Misleading name, but it does help get paperwork straight

OK, its an accordion file and they supply the labels. But for folks like me who keep all their receipts and other papers in one big messy bin, this accordion file is very useful. It helps you to get all the right papers sorted out, has neat little labels, and keep the papers together. You can pull just the papers you need out of that bin for tax time, and leave the rest in the bin for later.

And getting it for free, hey, I am not complaining!

Does THIS TurboTax/Intuit product ALSO contain C-Dilla ?

Intuit Turbotax 2002 included a non-optional program called “C-Dilla”. That program was supposed to be a DRM (Digital Rights Management — anti-piracy) program, but is a particularly nasty form of spyware / malware that may be difficult or impossibel to remove from your system.

Before considering TurboTax, make a strong effort to find out if C-Dilla is no longer part of the TurboTax program(s), and that it is not a part of this “TurboTax Organizer”.

In the 2002 version of TurboTax, a great protest rose up from prominent computer-industry magazines and users, which led to Intuit/TurboTax’s somewhat apologizing for C-Dilla, and offering a program that uninstalled C-Dilla after you’d uninstalled TurboTax 2002. (The original uninstall program that came with TurboTax 2002 didn’t remove C-Dilla.)

Why dislike C-Dilla ? Here’s why:
If I had known in advance that this program contains CDilla spyware / malware, I would not have bought it. I ordered the product already… but I guarantee it will make a quick trip to the trash-bin UNOPENED.

For those of you who don’t know what CDilla is:
It’s spyware, which means it reports across the internet to let the mfr. know if you’re making extra copies. It’s also malware, because it interferes with your CD copying… not just preventing certain copyrighted CDs from being copied (OK, OK) but also just plain preventing your CD burner from copying random CDs properly…whether there’s a legitimate reason for preventing that copy or not.

CDilla sets itself up on an undeclared, self-created partition on your hard disk. Yes, that means it goes in and changes your partition table !!! For some users, that’s going to be a real problems, because monkeying with the partition table is NOT a good idea…particularly if you have several partitions, dedicated to several flavors of operating system (Windows and Linux, for example… with a LiLo-type partition to provide you with a boot-time menu so you can choose which operating system to boot).

Here’s a quote from extremetech.com. (ExtremeTech and its sister publication PC Magazine are industry leaders. You have probably heard of their most famous writer, John C. Dvorak.) This is from one of many articles there about C-Dilla, particularly C-Dilla on Intuit’s TurboTax software. (Intuit-TurboTax-2002′s version of C-Dilla wasn’t different from any other version of C-Dilla. It just got alot of attention because TurboTax *was* very popular software until C-Dilla became a part of it.)

From the article:
“Likely the biggest problem users have expressed, is the level at which the TurboTax licensing agreement is managed and protected with the SafeCast/C-Dilla technology. People believe C-Dilla infiltrates their system in a very insidious manner, and uses memory and resources even when TurboTax is not loaded. And some believe it has caused them serious compatibility problems with non-related CD writing operations. (PC Magazine and ExtremeTech will be conducting some tests next week to see if we can duplicate some of these problems). [....] or your customers still looking to exit TurboTax for good, the uninstaller at this link now fully removes components of SafeCast/C-Dilla that were previously mostly impossible to remove.”

In short, C-Dilla is an extremely strong reason for any PC user to avoid this product. Buy something else instead. If you’re planning on using this product at work, forget it… your Info Technology manager will have a cow if he/she knows that you’re installing destructive trojan/spyware (C-Dilla) on the company PCs. If you’ve already installed this software on a PC at work, let your IT manager know IMMEDIATELY, so he/she can take whatever steps are possible to remove C-Dilla.
